Accommodation at Thredbo

Postby onward » Fri 31 Mar, 2017 6:30 pm

Day 9 of my AAWT and I am camped in a saddle just before Mt Anderson (and yes it is going to be a cold night!!). I have been carrying a terrible cold for the last 4-5 days and it is not making hiking enjoyable. Hence i want to spend a few days in Thredbo to recover. Any recommendations or suggestions for comfortable but not overly expensive accommodation?
Thanks
Martin

The YHA should have space. It's about $35/night plus a possible guest fee. The website is unhelpful on this point. I'll contact the hostel and see if they have space and ask the costs. Had a typo above - "gust fee".

Stayed at the YHA in 2010 and it was great. They were also happy for me to post a food drop there. (Future reference for other AAWT walkers).

Definitely the yha. They are used to smelly bushwalkers and are happy to hold a food drop. I found I was running a day late last time - rang them from Schlink Pass and left a message on their answering machine. They changed my booking without any problem.

If you are not already a YHA member you will need to join. This can push up the overall cost of a few nights a bit.

Otherwise I have enjoyed staying at Candlelight Lodge, as an alternative.

Thanks Lophophaps
Lucky to get accommodation with a downhill bike racing event on and 3 weddings. But yha clean and comfortable. Never stayed at one before but impressed. Showered, wash ed clothes, just had fish for dinner and a large glass of red, now ready for bed (which you have make yourself). A couple of days and the Cascades and Cobberas.

Good to hear, rest well and travel safe.
Hard to believe how busy Thredbo can be in the 'off' season :)

Another vote for the YHA. Very reasonably priced in the off season, and their own kitchen helps keep your costs down (although the lure of a pub meal can be strong). Holding a food drop is useful, plus they also have laundry facilities.
