Extra gear I'd want to take for a winter trip in heavy snow (assuming not using cross country ski's) would be snow shoes, ski gloves, wool shirt, wool socks and a down jacket. A scarf would probably get wet and then be useless I'd probably use leather boots rather than the lightweight synthetic ones. I'd normally take a beanie, gaiters, waterproofs, thermals, a small radio to check the weather forecast, a GPS and a PLB with me on a non-winter walk anyway. GPS with spare batteries would be useful in low visibility, but I would stay dry and warm in camp during a snow storm, rather than risk walking. I've done several Tassie winter trips in the show, but not with it being over waist-deep.
