Possum Tails?

Postby Tobias » Thu 25 Apr, 2019 6:37 pm

Have any good possum tails? I mean, uh... Tales?

I recently camped on Maria Island, and spent the night warding off a gang of greedy possums at Encampment Cove. At one point they had an (unsuccessful) go at opening my hiking pack, and unscrewing the cap on my waterbottle. Later on at Lake St Claire a particularly bold brushie climbed up on our table mid-dinner for his share of the Risotto.

Has anyone else experienced this? What happened? And have you noticed it's never the ringtails?

Camped at Newnes with a large group of friends. Had a large tarp with our group cooking area set up under it. Sitting around after dinner and in walked a possum not the slightest bit afraid. It proceeded to nip at a friends foot so he would move it to allow access to a scrap of food under it. This possum had lost all fear of people and wandered off after scavenging what it could.
One foot in front of the other.

Yes becoming a big issue at a lot of regularly used camps now. Trouble starts with misguided tourists feeding them in the first instance and then it escalated from there. Critter protection for food is now needed st a lot of camps so I hang the food.
