Camping with Campfire at or near Giraween

Postby Kuhr » Thu 05 Mar, 2020 7:57 am

Hello everyone

I have a group of friends who like to camp near Stanthorpe in the winter, for the brisk experience. At the same time myself and one of them are interested in the walks around Giraween. I suggested camping there this year, however I noted that it seems campfires are not allowed in the Giraween camping sites (is this the case?)

Where are the closest public or private camp grounds near Giraween that do allow campfires (especially in winter!), thinking maybe an alternative is to camp nearby where we can have a fire, and head over to Giraween during the days for a few (from what I hear) spectacular walks? (I have not been yet).

Quickly checked the local fire service website...no restrictions in place.

Boonoo Boonoo NP camp is closed due to fire damage.
Basket Swamp NP camp is open.
Bald Rock NP camp is open.
Girraween NP camp will be open from 3rd April.

The mighty Bicentennial Trail, North East of Boonoo Boonoo & Basket Swamp NP's also has some campsites along that section.

On track & off-track walks, waterfalls, gorges to seek out in the above NP's.
Some NP campsites supply wood, but better off to bring your own just in case.
