Kanangra Walls to Katoomba Water Availability

Postby Tim Booth » Wed 04 Sep, 2019 1:59 pm

Im looking for some advice about the current availability of water on the Kanangra to Katoomba bush walk. We are a school group of five students and two outdoor education teachers. The ranger expressed some doubt about the availability of water at Dex Creek and Mobbs swamp, which, from our understanding, were two critical points to get water on that route. Do you know of any recent walkers who have completed that trail and would have up to date information about the availability of water on that route?

When are you going? I'll be leading a group through this weekend, and happy to report back on what we find.

We'll be finished on Saturday evening. I do know there will be water at Kanangra Creek. As for Dex and Mobbs, I believe there was rain in the region last weekend, so there should be some about. May not be flowing, but I'd expect at least a pool at each.

I am heading up there in a week's time. I'd particularly like to know if there'd be water at Dex Creek near Mt CloudMaker

Yesterday I filled up at Kanangra creek. Wasn't paying enough attention at Dex Creek or Mobbs to be able to give a reliable answer, Dex looked dampish, around Mobbs looked fairly dry. Sorry, will leave it for someone else to give more accurate info as to water availability at these spots!

We camped at 100 Man Cave on Friday night. I expected some water down in the Ti Willa Gorge after some rain during recent weeks - but there was nothing. And I mean nothing. We dug with a small shovel in some sections of the creek bed and it was bone dry. Thankfully the rain came and we were able to collect from some trickles around the cave. We didn't get up to the Plateau but I suspect there would have been some decent little pools there.

Hi,

Could you give an update on this after your hike please? Particularly with Mobbs, I've begun to have real doubts about trusting it as a water source over the last couple of years.

After rain, there's loads of the watering the rock pools on the flat escarpment after wild dogs
