Thanks crollsurf. Yeah, I reckon I've probably visited every constructed lookout in the upper mountains a number of times. It remains a struggle to remember where they all are. This one jumped out for the wrong reasons. When I was last there some halfwit foreign tourist, with no apparent understanding of English, thought it was hilarious to fly his drone right in front of people's faces. I was trying to decide whether to spend time reporting it, since it was at the start of a walk and my priority was elsewhere. Then thankfully he left.

Still NSW, this one might be harder:

I visited this as a short unmarked side trip from a quite popular track.
But people are more likely to be abseiling to the left of the falls.

Looks like I've broken the game. To help narrow it down, it's in the Blue Mountains.
The waterfall flows into a major valley and is the abseil exit route from a canyon.

John,

The only place I can think of Empress Falls. If it is Empress you must have been in an interesting location to get that shot.

Not Empress Falls, but good logic Michael. This is in a different valley system north of there.
This is probably better known among canyoners, but the major track I accessed it from is well known to bushwalkers.

Judging from the clues, could it be the waterfall exit to Hat Hill Canyon, accessed from Grose River track?

Getting close jonnosan, you're almost opposite on the other side of the valley.

ribuck wrote:Exit to Yileen Canyon, next to the Pierces Pass walking track.

That's it ribuck. Short traverse from the track across to Yileen Gully and falls.

The Pound is at the back. It appears the Bubinyunna Range is what we crossed later on that trip - being a low range of foothills in front of the Wilpena wall.
The large range on the LHS is still to be named - and a name of where I am or approx location would be good.

The shape of the LHS range appears to be the southern end of the Heysen Range. So perhaps you are walking eastish on Moralana Creek.

I checked the spelling of the low range. It is Bunbinyunna. (Yes, Mark F and Lophophaps, pendants must you knight.)

Punctuation matters. Although I must admit, I've never before seen that word used as a pejorative.

Its not the Heysen Range.
Some clues - I am looking north.
Moralana Creek runs between the range on the LHS and the Pound.
It was a short stroll from the car to this designated lookout spot.

[huh - pendants versus pedants?? cute with the "unite" = "you knight"]

I haven't been able to make much sense of the angles of the various ranges. The other likely one would of course be Elder. But that means the low one cannot be Bunbinyulla. When you say "designated lookout", do you mean it has a name, or not?

Aha
The link uses Pedant though :)

Yes to the Elder Range on the LHS - and the low range is not Bunbinyulla.
I can see you thought the LHS was Wilpena, so your first answer threw me a bit.
Makes you see red, doesn't it?
Yes - this spot has a name - ..... Rock!

That link uses both, thanks to Mark F.

No, I identified Wilpena in the BG, Pompey through to Rawnsley. Red Range seemed to be there too, but nothing quite matched up. As for Rocks, what is out there that's not a rock? My maps have numerous anonymous, possibly splendiferous 'rocky outcrops'. Yes, I knew this was going to be both easy and tough!

Some context might help.
We had spent all day coming up from Adelaide and planting a waterdrop and then a car at Wilpena ready for a 3 day hike.
We were about 2 km out from our B&B digs for the night when I suggested dropping in on the local lookout rock pile - which is quite isolated and distinctive from the road.
Try searching via a "tourist" web site.

Hard work, indeed. Probably caused largely because your photographic equipment is far superior to mine. As I forgot to take that into account to begin with, I assumed you were much closer to the Pound. I could capture only an amorphous blob from that distance of over forty kilometres. I had guessed you might have been about ten.

Name this feature in SA, just a few paces from the pre-digital camera.

Not enough water to float an Ark. (Probably even less since 2012.) But it is a pleasant Sanctuary, with or without a Bollinger.
