You are correct, johnw. Hundreds of people hang out there each day, just enjoying the rocks and the scenery. There are no fences and no signs to desecrate the area. A wonderful piece of wilderness, an hour from the car park, and just one of the many amazing places in Arches NP. Here's the arch in context:

Thanks ribuck, I'd like to return to western US and visit. Salt Lake City airport is the only thing I've seen on the ground in Utah.

Staying on the North American continent. Crossing the 427 foot one-way swaying suspension bridge over a precipitous drop in a near whiteout was unnerving.
Incidentally that guy is going the wrong way defying very explicit compulsory signage, and commonsense, as it's too narrow to pass anyone:

I wonder whether the lake is Gerardmer in France. The topography seems plausible, although the water looks more chalky than I would expect.

Not France - though we were heading to France by train from the lake.
I have posted pictures from this walk before.

Ah, wrong side. These and other images suggest the Schynige Platte hike, maybe you were heading to Grindelwald from Interlaken?

Yes John - Schynige Platte
No John - just a short loop across the top and through the Alpine Botanical Garden there. Used the cog railway to get up/down.

Thanks eggs, I have fond memories from parts of the Swiss Alps but a long time ago.

Over to recent North American trip and another short hike I did there:

Relatively speaking this glacier is not too far from a significant landlocked township.

Wow, 262 views and not one question. The guesses are slower than the glacier's retreat. Don't forget you can ask for more information.
More clues - the glacier is about 13.6 miles long and located within the largest national forest in the US.
