Entry - 14 day quarantine period.

Postby Warin » Thu 19 Mar, 2020 10:22 am

For anyone going to Tassie there is a 14 day quarantine period on entry. That means if you want to do any walks you first have to endure 14 days of self quarantine before you start your walk. Starts midnight Friday 20th.

Strahan now, cruises cancelled, last train trip left this morning... tourist things are shutting down.

Was heading down late June and November. I have cancellation plans for flights and hotel. I'll wait till last minute to cancel. Feel sorry for all the the people relying on the tourist dollar. Stay safe all.

Penalties for not complying include "$16,800 fine or up to six months in prison": https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-19/ ... s/12069764

Sorry to those who may miss out, but...

I'm soooo looking forward to my family and our mate's family having the OT to ourselves at Easter!!! :-)

(Assuming that none of us come down with the dreaded lurgy before then.)

Not using huts - apart from lunch breaks if the weather is bad; only camping near one for one night.

Not using ferry - I actually like the bushwalking. ;-)

So unless they close the park completely, we should be all good.

Not always. First time I did the OT in winter, we took the ferry from Cynthia Bay to Narcissus. A very nice young lady (ranger?) was driving it back then. The river was flooded and the jetty well under water, and she went right past the usual landing place, up the river and drove the Idaclair in hard and jammed it tight between two gum trees right in front of the Narcissus hut. My mate and I thought she was terrific.

Some new developments:
https://parks.tas.gov.au/explore-our-pa ... -go/alerts
Bushwalking huts across the state are being closed, or only available for emergency use. Overland Track walkers must carry a tent now, the 3CT is to be closed, as are numerous visitors centres. Frenchmans Cap is remaining open, but a booking system is being introduced. I wonder if the plan is to keep the booking system in place even once the pandemic has passed.
All tracks are remaining open to the public though (other than 3CT).

Different ferry, but I watched the Spirit of Tassie going out the heads this morning, and back this arvo ( presumably there are 2). Wondering how much longer it will run?

The Spirit of Tas will continue to run as it is a major freight carrier. I am typing this sitting in Davenport waiting to board. only changes at the moment is no bar and food take away only.
caravans, campers and camper trailers now all barred from entry to Tas. I got my holiday in just in time.
