Road to Lake Pedder

Postby cggray » Thu 08 Aug, 2019 11:10 am

Hi - I am hoping to drive to Lake Pedder this weekend from Hobart. I have accommodation booked at the Lodge and had planned a few walks. The weather is looking pretty grim. While I'm happy to hang in the lodge and not walk too much, I am worried about the drive. Snow is forecast to 500m and I know we have to pass through Mt Tim Shae which is over 900m elevation. Also concerned about ice on roads. Anyone have any experience driving down there in these conditions? Forecast is http://www.bom.gov.au/tas/forecasts/strathgordon.shtml Cheers

yeah.. I'd say you are in trouble there.

Police will probably close the road at Maydena.
What sort of vehicle are you driving?
If you can get your hands on snow chains they are a good insurance policy and may get you through in a 4WD.
1mm of rain = 1cm of snow. It's really hard to judge depending on the freezing level and whether the forecast plays out.
15cm tomorrow and 20cm Saturday - it's going to be very hard to keep the road open.

But it's been changing around all week.

Keep an eye on:
